The Surrogate Assassin by Christopher A. Leppek (1998)

Reviewed by Scott Sinclair of Dunedin, New Zealand. Holmes & Watson are traveling to the States to help Edwin Booth. Edwin is the brother of John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln. The assassination of Lincoln is central to the plot and as a non American whose knowledge about events surrounding Lincoln's death is almost non existent, I found the historical events included in the book quite fascinating. Leppek succeeds in mixing American history with a ripping good yarn in the style and tradition of the original creator of Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is a Holmes fan.
