One 'tool' I used is a sitz bath. You can find them in any drug store (in
the bedpan section). I've seen them for anywhere from $8-$13. They are
made to fit right into the toilet seat and hold a good amount of litter.
Plus you can poke and cut holes in them to help with training. Most of the
list members use them. Here's what one looks like fresh from the store.
You can toss the bag and tubes. The bumps on the top
will prevent you lowering the toilet seat properly. You can do one of two
things... Loosen the seat so that it sits on top of sitz bath. OR, take an
old kitchen knife and heat it with a candle flame and melt/cut the bumps
off.
As you advance in your training you will want to have
holes to get the kitty gradually used to going in water. Some people poke
many small holes with an ice pick (not the mountain climbing kind) and
some people go for one hole in the middle starting at about 1/4" in
diameter and gradually getting bigger.
We used the sitz here for a really long time before we
changed to the roasting pan. Here's Jake using the toilet with the sitz
installed.
