When you see you
can click on it and get a really big, non-zoomed version of the day's photo!
Every Saturday I take an extra large photo and
every Sunday I replay the photo from the same day the year before.
Monday,
October 1, 3:45 p.m. - I haven't seen Big Blue in days
and thought maybe he'd moved on but today, I can see the
very top of him peeking out behind the northwest tower.
And, for those of you who may have recently joined us...
Big Blue is our favorite crane. |
Tuesday,
October 2, 4:45 p.m. - There's a lot of construction
noise today - but it must be happening where I can't see
it. There is a new little stack o' stuff just in
front of the grand stairway. Looks like Styrofoam of
some kind. And the flag on the pole is still tightly
wrapped which I don't quite understand. |
Wednesday,
October 3, 5 p.m. - This is one of those days when I
can't see a single change. I'm sure one of you will
spot something that I missed. |
Thursday,
October 4, 5 p.m. - They removed the form on the
little wall - east side of the grand staircase. And,
Greg did point out that they seams along the grand
staircase are changing as they fill them in. My Mom
has her eye on the pile of Styrofoam which was moved a bit
today. Some changes are not all that dramatic
 |
Friday,
October 5, 5 p.m. - It's time to revise my photo
taking schedule. Waiting until 5 is getting a lot of
bad shadows especially on sunny days. Big Blue is
still in the bowl. Wonder if he's just going to stay
there - he'd be an interesting tackle option. |
 Saturday,
October 6, 3:30 p.m. - There hasn't been much action
on the site, but the outfit that is set up in the parking
lot closest to my condo spent the morning rearranging
metal things and making a lot of hissing noises. It
sounded like they were building a new building but turns
out they were only cleaning up their patch. It looks
very tidy now. |
 Sunday,
October 7, 2 p.m. - It's a gray day here and it's
supposed to get grayer so I thought I'd go ahead and get
the photo while I could. Bit of a contrast from this
day last year! No sign of life on the site today. |
Monday,
October 8, 10:30 a.m. - Although the photo was taken
this morning, I didn't get a chance to get it up here
until now - 8 p.m. Meanwhile both Tony and
Rikketyrik reported that
First and Goal has new pictures up including ones of
the fire that happened last month. |
Tuesday,
October 9, 3 p.m. - They are starting to do some real
work on the end of the northwest tower. Should be
interesting to watch up close. And, you can see that
Big Blue is still with us. I had heard that he was
due to move on to the next job in mid-September. |
Wednesday,
October 10, 3 p.m. - It's a cold, rainy, dreary day
all over, including the construction site but the work
goes on. They are still messing around with the rock
pile and making progress on the grand staircase work. |
Thursday,
October 11, 2:45 p.m. - I caught Big Blue delivering a
bucket of workers to the top of the northwest tower.
If those workers were paying attention, they could have
caught David Bell's 5th inning home run at Safeco which
was hit just before this photo was taken. |
Friday,
October 12, 3 p.m. - Big doings today! Big Blue
is out for good. Check the circle. They've started
filling in the grand staircase. If you look
carefully in the circle you can see that Big Blue is
lowering down a slab of concrete that makes the flat part.
And, they added some screening to the side of the giant
scoreboard (arrow). And, they've put down what looks
like moisture barrier type of stuff on the east side of
the grand staircase. |
 Saturday,
October 13, 1:45 p.m. There was a good bit of
action on the site today for a Saturday. Lots
centered around the grand staircase. But the big
deal today is that I did not take the photos. We had a
special guest photographer. Robert Parker, his wife,
Amanda and his really cool children, Jessica and Joe were
in Seattle visiting from Bradford, England. Robert
has been a faithful visitor to this webpage and
contributor to the ClamCam Forum and a very serious
Seahawks fan. Robert took today's photos. |
 Sunday,
October 14, 1:45 p.m. - Looks like our weather last
year was pretty close to our weather today. It's a
quiet day in the neighborhood today - no action at all. |
Monday,
October 15, 3:30 p.m. - There are a lot of people scattered around
the grand staircase today working on the various bits and
pieces. Thanks for Tony for the heads up on new
First and Goal photos. |
Tuesday,
October 16, 5 p.m. - Well, none of you caught my big
faux pas yesterday. I should never try and update a
website during a playoff game. I posed Sunday's
photo instead of Monday's. That's also why no one
wrote to tell me the two big new things - they flag is
back and the northwest hustle board has been installed! |
Wednesday,
October 17, 3: 15 p.m. - Just when I think you
guys aren't paying attention, you set me straight. Yes, I
neglected to mention the biggest news of all in
yesterday's photo... Big Blue's arm lying on the
ground. Yes, it's Bye Bye Big Blue. I actually
even got a note from his driver (the
Craneologist) last night saying that today was his last
day on the site. It took 22 semi trailer
trucks to move him out. You can see the last piece
being lifted off the ground in the little photo here.
It's going to be a different site without the big blue
arm... |
Thursday,
October 18, 4 p.m. - We have a new section of the big
scoreboard screened off today. The flag is still
there, by the way, but tucked in at the top. I suspect
this is so it wouldn't get in the way of the installation.
They are doing a whole lot of work on the staircase but I
can't quite get the details even with my binoculars. |
Friday,
October 19, 4 p.m. - More screening was added today.
But, the big news is on the
ClamCam Forum.
Dave's been back on site and gives a full report. Plus,
for those of you in Seattle, he tells us that his stuff
will air on the Seahawks show, Saturdays at 10:30 -
Channel 13. |
 Saturday,
October 20, 4 p.m. - There was a fairly large crew out
this morning working on that grand staircase. They
were rolling the black stuff on with big rollers. I
forgot to mention that they seem to be making good
progress on the west side of the grand staircase, too.
They should be filing it in fairly soon. But, I
wonder why they haven't painted the beak yet! |
Sunday,
October 21, 5 p.m. - I was afraid I wouldn't be able
to get a clear shot today. It's been foggy and
raining all day but it finally cleared enough for the
picture. Remember when they finished off the big
scoreboard and put a tree up there? I knew, at the
time, about the tradition on construction projects to have
a tree topping when they finished the highest part.
But, what I didn't know and just recently found out, was
that the tree celebrates the lack of fatalities on the
project. Wild, eh? |
Monday,
October 22, 5:30 p.m. - I was late getting the photo
today and what a nice glow I got from the afternoon sun.
They did a lot of work in that final section of the grand
staircase today and laid down some more of that black
vapor barrier stuff. |
Tuesday,
October 23, 4 p.m. - More screening today and more
stairway work. I think that last section of stairway
must be nearly ready to get finished off. On a
personal note, there are only 114 days until Spring
Training and the start of an even more spectacular Mariner
season! |
Wednesday,
October 24, 4 p.m. - More screen... more stairway
work... they are just crunching along. Now, for the
bad news. No photo tomorrow. Really. I
have a meeting for work that starts before dawn and won't
end until after dinner and I won't be anywhere near this
place so your next photo will have to be Friday.
Sorry. |
Friday,
October 26, 4 p.m. - They finished off that funky
balcony thing under the northwest beak. (And, when
are they ever going to paint that sucker??!!) Also,
this isn't new but it's the first time you can see it
well. There's a cement block wall around the base of
the grand staircase. More screening on the tower and
more work on the stairs part of the staircase. They
have been busy busy! Oh, Greg found a cool thing on
the web. This
outfit has stadium replicas! None of the new
stadium yet, but a great one of Safeco Field. Oh and
another thing...
Dan Sherbeck's web cam was down for while but now it's
back up! |
Saturday,
October 27, 3:30 p.m. - It's kind of a dark day today
but that enables you to see that the lights are on in the
stadium! I circled the area - it's a row of glassed
in place with a good view of the field and the lights are
on. I also finally remembered to look when I went out
today and the last beak is in place but it isn't painted
yet either. |
  Sunday,
October 28, 3:30 p.m. - I totally forgot to get the
extra large photo yesterday! I don't even have a
good excuse, I just forgot. So today you get the XL
and this day last year. I also didn't notice
until today that sometime after Wednesday's photo, they
laid in the first of the steps on the grand staircase.
I circled 'em today. |
Monday,
October 29, 2:30 p.m. - They started painting the
northwest tower today - it's hard to see so I gave it a
circle. Also Greg noticed that the they haven't yet
painted the very top of the northeast beak. Wonder
why not? |
Tuesday,
October 30, 4:30 p.m. - I was going to try and
convince you that I waited to take today's photo so you
could see the lights on that I was talking about the other
day. But, the truth is I totally forgot that I have
to come home during the day to take the picture these
days! I almost missed it entirely today! Tony
discovered new
First and Goal photos - maybe this will make up for my
gaff. |
Wednesday,
October 31, 1 p.m. - Well, I did better today.
You can see new steps and more work on the west side of
the grand staircase. If you look closely you can
also see about 7 workers lined up in a row just to the
right of the bottom of the scoreboard. I think they
were eating their lunch. And there's a new yellow
thing just to the right of the northeast tower. It
looks like some kind of wallboard. Happy Halloween! |
